报告摘要:

The main research activities of the Molecular Electrochemistry Laboratory will be presented with a special focus on the electron transfer reaction mechanism leading to the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) phenomenon. Its applications in the development of light-emitting devices and sensing platforms will be also covered.

The study of electron transfer (eT) mechanism in molecular systems and biological models is of paramount importance to decipher structure-related properties aiming at developing new tools and next-generation technologies, whose applications range from catalysis and sustainable energy production to the development of biosensing platform. Small molecules (e.g. organic dyes, metal complexes), metal nanoclusters, peptides and functionalized surfaces offer ideal model systems to understand such basic and yet fundamental reaction represented by the electron transfer.

Electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) is a fascinating phenomenon caused by highly exergonic electron transfer reaction between electrogenerated radicals leading to the formation of an excited state species that emits a photon. ECL finds applications in the development of biosensing architecture as a powerful analytical tool and in the study of electroluminescent materials to develop light-emitting devices.
